Burn-ing a hole in social media
So as Burns night looms and the sea of tartan tainted media rolls our way, it is of course an important and philosophical question to ponder, what if Burns existed now?
Rabbie Burns once said ‘i pick my favourite quotations and store them in my mind as ready armour amid the struggle of this turbulent existence.’ well, amid THIS turbulent existence, maybe we are in need of this ready armour in the form of quotes? What would Twitter be if it wasn’t for the traffic of inspirational quotes for one to relentlessly retweet?
World bank economists commissioned by the BBC in 2003 estimated that Burns related tourism and trivia, provided 157 million added value every year to the Scottish economy. Just imagine that number if Burns were here to digitally market the cult of haggis and the aesthetic of tartan? Gone are the days of being a poet, he’d be a business mogul, like Alan Sugar but with a little less trouser and, well… a little more kilt and let’s face it, a better accent.
With That said, on with a wee bit haggis!
